Lagerfeld, che oggi ha 77 anni, soltanto un anno fa negava categoricamente l'idea del ritiro dalla direzione artistica di Chanel, affermando di avere ancora molti progetti in corso e di voler lavorare fino a 89 anni. Che cosa lo ha fatto cambiare idea? Perché ora comincia a prendere in considerazione la possibilità di cedere il testimone? Quello che è certo è che Kaiser Karl ammira il lavoro di Ackermann, tanto da volerlo come ospite alla sua ultima sfilata Chanel.
