Tribute to : Julie Ragolia

 began studying the culture of style at an early age, traveling within several of fashion’s sub-genres throughout her youth in New York City. Discovered by a staffer at MTV on the heels of her first published fashion editorial, Julie was brought in to develop the fashion styles of the network’s VJs and celebrity hosts. Soon afterward she moved into publications, working under the fashion direction of W Magazine. Julie has been a fashion contributor to some of the industry’s most illustrious magazines, including international editions of W and Vogue, Interview, Esquire, and Vanity Fair. She has held post as Contributing Fashion Editor to Fader Magazine and, most recently, as Fashion Director of CITY Magazine, where she was hired to rebrand and reshape the magazine’s fashion content. Julie has defined the fashion styles for numerous celebrities and musicians, including the Killers, David and Victoria Beckham, Lindsay Lohan, All-American Rejects, and more, and she is currently consulting a selection of menswear brands on their seasonal collections. Julie is also the cover and feature subject of The Sartorialist, famed fashion blogger, Scott Schuman’s, first published collection of photographic works.
In addition to fashion, Julie is co-founder and curator of PLAYGROUND, an independent collective that explores and celebrates the experiential relationship between fashion and art through exhibition, installation, and custom artwork collections. Playground launched in 2007 at Anna Kustera Gallery in New York. Subsequent hosts of Playground included Colette in Paris, Selfridges in London, and the MOCA Museum in Los Angeles. Two copies of Playground 1 are in the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Julie’s artwork has been featured in group shows in such galleries as Anna Kustera and Exit Art in Chelsea, NYC, the Museum of Arts and Design, NYC, and the Architecture + Design Museum in Los Angeles. She has recently begun working with the Museum of Arts and Design on their upcoming contemporary art galas and exhibitions.
